CHALLENGE CRITERIA
I love a good heart felt page but I never seem to really scrap the simple things I love so figured I might do that this release... but of course you can scrap anything that takes your fancy so long as you follow the theme outlined below.
THEME
It could be that gorgeous special someone be it your better half or your skidaddles, maybe your furry or feathery family member. The object of your desires could be a cherished item or collection that makes you swoon. It may well be a memory or a feeling that has stayed with you or tugged at your heart strings for a long time! Whatever it is that makes your heart skip a beat, scrap about it!
PICK A TEMPLATE
You must use one of the 5 sketches in the Valentines 'Love is Everywhere' Page Drafts release.
You may rotate this sketch any which way your heart desires however your creation must remain as close as possible to the original sketch design.
NB: You are more than welcome to submit more than one page.
FOLLOW PAGE DRAFTS
If you havent already, follow both the Page Drafts Blog and Page Drafts Facebook Page.
Do the same for all our sponsors.
NB:This is crucial to submitting your entry.
SHARE YOUR CREATION
Share your finished project no later than 28th February Australian EST on facebook by tagging Page Drafts, you can only do this if you are following the Page Drafts page. The page will then be featured and shared in the special Valentines 2014 Album that way we can see everyones artworks in the one place much like a gallery.
NB: If you do not use facebook thats fine, simply email your pages to justagirlwithideas@hotmail.com
or alternatively if you blogged about your artwork link us up in the comments field below.
EXTRA CRITERIA
There is none, thats it....so just have lots of fun!
..................................
oooh and one final thing before we check out the sketches it was decided, given it was so late in the game that this release was upgraded to a whopper challenge, that it would be nice to give the ladies on the 'Love Team' an opportunity to participate too. So please feel free to join in guys, if a team member decides to participate they must create a new page using a different sketch from the one they have already used.
Here are the sketches for you to choose from hope you find one that inspires you... If you would like to have this sketch pack simply click the image below to be redirected to the download.
If you would like to stop by the 'Love Team' members blogs you can do so easily by clicking on their projects below, I know they would love to have you visit so say hello and share the lurve!
'Together'
by Eszter Baranyi
This awesome digital page is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Ez has done some amazing blending which is her signature style. Lots of fantastic textures and scattered elements make this page a standout!
Design Tip: Using blending modes to add texture in a digi page is lots of fun . You can do this in lieu of paper or other elements in a sketch. Stamping and brush work is also a tonne of fun, with the addition of each layer you are adding lots of depth and more importantly it can be very liberating creatively...so why not give it a go!
'Old Man Face'
by Belinda Spencer
Ha ha, gotta love a goofy hubby. I totally relate to this page, sometimes its near impossible to get a serious and sexy piccie of mine, and well looks like Belinda has the same issue! This is a fun page that shows what I would imagine is the real personality of B's hubby a fun easy going bloke!
Design Tip: Scrapbook the happy snaps! Showcase the real personality of your subject by using pictures that aren't so contrived, poised or orchestrated. A shot taken of a fleeting moment often captures the essence of the person, so pick the silly faced, blurred in motion or over exposed ones every now and then. Even though they may not be perfect they are equally as beautiful and well they just plain rock!
'I Love You'
by Natalie May
How good is Natalie's page. Her use of cut files to form the framed elements is a great way to introduce a personal touch to the sketch design.
Design Tip: When using strong contrast B&W photo's consider adding some dark elements to balance out the overall design in turn helping to guide the viewers eye around the page.
'Smitten'
by Natascha Broers
Tash has done an art journal style digital page. You don't have to always use photo's in your projects. The use of strong bold pattern and elements can convey a message equally as well.
Design Tip: To help create the illusion of height and depth in digital projects consider the shadowing on each layer. The closest layer to the base should have a darker lower cast shadow. As you build up each layer increase the distance and opacity of the shadowing to help form the illusion of height.
'Love You'
by Felicity Wilson
Look at this beautiful page. Felicity has enlarged the sketch to create a project that is void of white space. This is a clever way to reinterpret the sketch and change it up a bit.
Design Tip: Stitching is a great way to easily include frames and borders to your projects. It also adds another tactile element to the overall design.
'Love'
by Kerry O'Meara
Kerry's page is filled to the brim with lots of embellishments and different papers. I love how Kerry added journal tags and partially hidden journaling in place of one of the photos. Its a great solution for turning a 2 photo template into a single photo page and is also perfect for those of you who dont like to journal directly onto your projects.
Design Tip: Even though they are all very different in design, the repeated use of hearts, polka dots and stripes helps to unify a page design. So consider picking 2-3 shapes and repeat the theme.
'You & Me'
by Marcia Dehn-Nix
Marcia's page is a fun bright and happy page. Her use of mixed paper designs adds a vintage/retro feel to her project. I love how Marcia repeated the stamped sentiment down the middle of the page. This is a fun way to add an extra element or layer in lieu of journaling.
Design Tip: Try stacking extra copies of your photos to give the illusion that there are many in the series.
'Awesome 11'
by Sami Cronin
Sami has created an awesome and eye catching bold page. The instagram style photos of her son really capture what looks like a fun loving young man and the connection the two obviously have together. With the addition of fun filters you can easily tweak the lighting and tones of your shots to help support and create any mood or theme.
Design Tip: The great thing about sketches are that you can add and remove any component. To fill the void in a sketch that has a lot of white space try adding a larger photo. This becomes a really striking focal point and adds a more graphic flavour to the overall design.
'2 Hearts 1 Love'
by Lizzy Crust
Look at this beautiful page by Lizzy. The photos of her parents are so so sweet you can tell they are still madly inlove after all those years, definitely an inspiring and lasting love!
Design Tip: Adding lots of different mediums and media helps create a very tactile page. So have a play with medium pastes and structure gels to form embossed decorative backgrounds.
'Love ya 2'
by Ros Cheetham
Ros created this fabulous fun page. Her clever way of off centering the photos in their frames creates an interesting visual effect and reinforces the repeated design elements in the sketch.
Design Tip: If you want to keep your paper usage to the minimum or can't find a good match for your page try selecting a transparent paper design. They are the perfect remedy to adding pattern without resorting to traditional papers, stamping techniques or rub-ons.
Jean has created a gorgeous dedication to her kids. Seeing them happy is her happy. I love this take on the theme, because it represents everything about unconditional love and what we hope for our kids.
Design Tip: The photo groupings in sketches are just a prompt so if you want to change it up a bit go for it. This adds a touch of the unexpected because you can use the same sketch over and over again by simply reinterpreting it differently each time you use it.

'Dear Husband'
by Sanna Lippert
Sanna has created a fabulous page using lots of bright and bold papers. Adding an inked edge or outline penned around your papers and elements creates a more graphic feel. Sanna decided to flip the sketch and added a single photo in place of the 4 smaller ones completely making it her own.
Design Tip: If you are not keen on journaling but like to add something in its place try adding quotes. Some great ways to do that is by stamping sentiments or adding rub-ons in place of the journal spot.
'Love a Lark'
by Emma Stafrace
Here's one I did. Its obviously all about the little mister... my creative muse he he. I really love adding photo strips to my pages, they are easy to create digitally but if you have a smart phone you can download some fantastic Photo Booth apps or programs to use on your desktop that are a cinch to use.
Design Tip: Here is a link to some Photobooth Apps that are available for free download. But if you are looking for a good app to purchase that offers lots of fabulous features here is one created by Hipstamatic LLC called 'IncrediBooth' or another called 'Pocketbooth' by Project Box.
So from the Love Team and Page Drafts we wish you all a very
Happy Valentines and of course hope you will join in... after all
'Ya gotta be in it, to win it!'
